Generalized Serret-Andoyer Transformation and Applications for the Controlled Rigid Body

چکیده
The Serret-Andoyer transformation is a classical method for reducing the free rigid body dynamics, expressed in Eulerian coordinates, to a 2-dimensional Hamiltonian flow. First, we show that this transformation is the computation, in 3-1-3 Eulerian coordinates, of the symplectic (Marsden-Weinstein) reduction associated with the lifted left-action of SO(3) on T ∗SO(3)—a generalization and extension of Noether’s theorem for Hamiltonian systems with symmetry. In fact, we go on to generalize the Serret-Andoyer transformation to the case of Hamiltonian systems on T ∗SO(3)with left-invariant, hyperregular Hamiltonian functions. Interpretations of the Serret-Andoyer variables, both as Eulerian coordinates and as canonical coordinates of the co-adjoint orbit, are given. Next, we apply the result obtained to the controlled rigid body with momentum wheels. For the class of Hamiltonian controls that preserve the symmetry on T ∗SO(3), the closed-loop motion of the main body can again be reduced to canonical form. This simplifies the stability proof for relative equilibria , which then amounts to verifying the classical Lagrange-Dirichlet criterion. Additionally, issues regarding numerical integration of closed-loop dynamics are also discussed. Part of this work has been presented in [16].

The Serret-Andoyer Formalism in Rigid-Body Dynamics: I. Symmetries and Perturbations
This paper reviews the Serret-Andoyer (SA) canonical formalism in rigid-body dynamics, and presents some new results. As well known, the problem of unsupported and unperturbed rigid rotator can be reduced. The availability of this reduction is offered by the underlying
متن کاملCharacterisation of Frenet-Serret and Bishop motions with applications to needle steering
Frenet-Serret and Bishop rigid-body motions have many potential applications in robotics, graphics and computer aided design. In order to study these motions new characterisations in terms of their velocity twists are derived. This is extended to general motions based on any moving frame to a space curve. Further it is shown that any such general moving frame motion is the product of a Frenet-S...
متن کاملComparison of Anesthetic Techniques on Outcomes of Pediatric Rigid Bronchoscopy for Foreign Body Removal
Background Although both methods of spontaneous respiration and controlled ventilation during anesthesia are safe and effective for managing children with foreign body aspiration, there is no consensus from the literature as to which technique is optimal. This study aimed to determine the outcomes of anesthetic techniques in pediatric rigid bronchoscopy for foreign body removal. Materials and M...
متن کاملOn the theory of canonical perturbations and its (mis)application to Earth rotation
Both orbital and rotational dynamics employ the method of variation of parameters. We express, in a non-perturbed setting, the coordinates (Cartesian, in the orbital case, or Eulerian in the rotation case) via the time and six adjustable constants called elements (orbital elements or rotational elements). If, under disturbance, we use this expression as ansatz and endow the “constants” with tim...
متن کاملControlled vs Spontaneous Ventilation for Bronchoscopy in Children with Tracheobronchial Foreign Body
Introduction Tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration is a common life-threatening condition in children. There are controversies in the management of this condition, including the type of ventilation during bronchoscopy. This study aims to compare anesthesia with controlled ventilation versus spontaneous ventilation in rigid bronchoscopy in children with foreign body aspiration. Materials...
